Quantum Gravity Resolution to the Cosmological Constant Problem

چکیده
A finite quantum gravity theory is used to resolve the cosmological constant problem. A fundamental quantum gravity scale, ΛG ≤ 10 −3 eV, is introduced above which the quantum corrections to the vacuum energy density coupled to gravity are exponentially suppressed by a graviton vertex form factor, yielding an observationally acceptable value for the particle physics contribution to the cosmological constant. Classical Einstein gravity retains its causal behavior as well as the standard agreement with observational data.

3 Cosmological Constant Problem
The cosmological constant problem is reviewed and a possible quantum gravity resolution is proposed. A space satellite Eötvös experiment for zero-point vacuum energy is proposed to see whether Casimir vacuum energy falls in a gravitational field at the same rate as ordinary matter. 1 Cosmological Constant Problem • It is generally agreed that the cosmological constant problem (CCP) is one of th...
متن کاملTowards an Effective Particle-String Resolution of the Cosmological Constant Problem
The Cosmological Constant Problem is re-examined from an effective field theory perspective. While the connection between gravity and particle physics has not been experimentally probed in the quantum regime, it is severely constrained by the successes of Standard Model quantum field theory at short distances, and classical General Relativity at large distances. At first sight, it appears that ...
متن کاملA toy model of quantum gravity with a quantized cosmological constant∗
The path integral for the hydrogen atom, for example, is formulated as a onedimensional quantum gravity coupled to matter fields representing the electron coordinates. The (renormalized) cosmological constant, which corresponds to the energy eigenvalue, is thus quantized in this model. Possible implications of the quantized cosmological constant are briefly discussed. The problem of the cosmolo...
متن کاملSpacetime Fluctuations and the Cosmological Constant Problem
Spacetime geometry is treated as a fluctuating, stochastic quantum system allowing an effective quantum gravity solution to the cosmological constant problem. A Fokker-Planck equation for the probability density of spacetime metric fluctuations is solved for an FRW universe and the most probable value for the metric scale factor R is for a very small cosmological constant. e-mail: [email protected]...
متن کاملQuantum Gravity at Astrophysical Distances?
Assuming that Quantum Einstein Gravity (QEG) is the correct theory of gravity on all length scales we use analytical results from nonperturbative renormalization group (RG) equations as well as experimental input in order to characterize the special RG trajectory of QEG which is realized in Nature and to determine its parameters. On this trajectory, we identify a regime of scales where gravitat...
